Question: How do you react to a finger of man penetrating your virginal ear canal?
a) Dismiss the action as the antics of disturbed youth?
b) Smoke a cigarette?
c) Beat the perpetrator into a bloody pile of hair and teeth with a few bones tossed in
d) Swat away the hand?
Well, on a clear summer day several summers ago I witnessed a man being forced to answer this question. The man had sat down at a table with his family. He was joined by his adult cousin who several weeks before had decided to pick on his stronger younger brother and their interaction resulted in the older brother getting a beat down and a broken collar bone. Most men who are the victim of this kind of ass whipping tend to have a little more humility in future interaction as they tend to learn the age old lesson of “you mess with the bull, you get the horns.” However, this lad was slow on the uptake and decided that while his dominant arm is hanging useless at his side in a sling. His left arm is perfectly capable of reaching across his body to put a finger into the ear canal of his older cousin, the man who is being posed the question above. The gentleman in question answered D and casually turned around to swat away the offender. However, the act of reaching across the body had put the finger poker in an awkward position and the swinging palm managed to both push the finger away and land squarely on a healing shoulder. The tears and resulting drama that ensued included accusing the older cousin of needing psychiatric helping to the point of being institutionalized, all for swatting away a finger and accidentally bumping a damaged shoulder. The subject that was never broached was why an adult man would put his finger in another mans ear and not expect to get either answers C or D? Time has healed these wounds although no one speaks any more it probably isn’t too much of a loss.
